TAG 'EM WINS IFC DOLPHIN 2001

Takes home $25,000 winner take all prize!

Islamorada, FL-- Despite a rainy start, the day turned sunny for the Tag 'Em fishing team June 7, winning the Islamorada Fishing Club's Dolphin 2001. The highly competitive field of 25 boats was dominated by anglers Terry Caulder and Rusty McClam with Captain Greg Pope and Mate Matt Grynewicz taking top honors with 88.34 pounds of fish--the combined weight of three Dolphin, as well as the largest fish caught at 36.92 pounds.

The winning catch set a new record for the IFC event, beating out the father son Joe Roth team, last year's winners with 82.54 pounds of fish. Everyone was sure at least one 40 pounder would be weighed, especially since Capt. Skip Bradeen on the Blue Chip Too had boated a 45 pounder the day before the IFC tourney. But it wasn't to be and the 36.92 catch was the biggest fish of the day.

Second place honors went to anglers Jeff Parish and Campbell Kreps, fishing aboard the Relentless with Captain Paul Ross, with a 75.68 pound catch. Third place went to anglers Mike Myers and Reinaldo Diaz fishing aboard Sandy Cove with Captain Brett Wilson and Mate Ben Ekblom with a very respectable catch of 74.86 pounds.

Contender Boats and Yamaha Outboards were the primary sponsors of the event with associate sponsors including Homestead Gas, Ivory International and Regan Insurance, as well as American Specialty Company, caribee Boat Sales, Cheeca Lodge, Hawk Associates, Hooked on Books, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Mull and Associates, PA, Plano, Clear Channel Broadcasting (Easy 96, Sun 103 and Thunder 100), TIB Bank of the Keys and VillageSun.com.

Now in its third year, the IFC Triple Crown Series continues to grow in popularity. Next year, the series will go all offshore, with  Sailfish, Kingfish and Dolphin. The Club has already received entries for the Sailfish 2002 scheduled for January. For more information contact Club Manager Jan Moore at (305) 664-4735.
