"Sherry D" Brings home victory and $25,000

Capt Benny Spaulding and the crew of the "Sherry D" charterboat from the Bud 'n Mary's marina in Islamorada took home the top (and only) honors in the Islamorada Fishing Club's $25,000 winner-take-all Sailfish 2002 fishing tournament. Capt. Spaulding edged out Capt. Scott Stanzyk and the crew of the "Catch 22" by one fish in a back-and-forth battle for the lead that lasted for the better part of the electric day. No small beans up for grabs in this tournament.

The tournament was accompanied by a lavish banquet put on by the skilled staff at the Islamorada Fishing Club. The Sailfish 2002 is the first of 3 $25,000 tournaments scheduled for 2002 at the IFC. The Sailfish tournament is first followed by the Kingfish 2002 scheduled for Feb 28 and the Dolphin 2002 this summer.
If team "Sherry D" (with the same anglers) can win the remaining two tournaments, they will bring home an additional $25,000 prize.
